MLK Day Online Event Will You Participate?

The Rosendale Theatre is creating a virtual event for Martin Luther King Day taking place on Monday, January 18th at 4 PM. We are looking for community participation in this celebration and are asking for photo and/or a short video submission that will be part of the celebration.

This event will feature the "I Have a Dream Speech" by Dr. King, a message from Congressman Delgado, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, Ulster County Legislator Manna Jo Green who worked with Dr. King as a teenager as well as other community leaders and The Energy Dance Company.

Can you participate?
If so, here are the details:

Photo Submission Details
Take a photo of yourself holding a large white piece of paper on that paper, write a one or two word response to the question: “What is your dream for 2021?” Tips: The photo should be waist up, make sure to use a thick marker for the writing of the word.

Video Submission Details
Create a short video (up to one minute) answering the questions: “What is your dream for 2021?” A few tips for recording at home:
Start the video by saying “My (or our) dream for 2021 is……

Video Tips:
Speak clearly and not too fast.
Please set up your shot so it is chest up and leave a little room above your head.
Record your message with your phone held horizontally/ landscape.
Make sure you're well-lit from the front (facing a window is a great way to get good lighting) or even tape outside!
Pick a quiet location.
Place the camera at eye level so you are not shooting from below.
Label the file with your name.
Please send only one version of the video. Pick your favorite.
Deadline for all submissions: All messages must be in by Wednesday, January 13th.

If self taping is a challenge, I will have a video crew at CCE on Weds. Jan 13th from 5 - 7. Let me know if you want to do this and I can schedule a time for you!

"The world’s most mysterious book - Stephen Bax." TED-Ed, Youtube. [4:42] View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/the-world-s...  Deep inside Yale's Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library lies a 240 page tome. Recently carbon dated to around 1420, its pages feature looping handwriting and hand drawn images seemingly stolen from a dream. It is called the Voynich manuscript, and it’s one of history’s biggest unsolved mysteries. The reason why? No one can figure out what it says. Stephen Bax investigates this cryptic work.   Lesson by Stephen Bax, animation by TED-Ed. May 25, 2017. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NS4CbBJQ84

[8:56] The early 1900s was an amazing time for Western science, as Albert Einstein was developing his theories of relativity and psychology was born, as Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis took over the scientific mainstream. Karl Popper observed these developments firsthand and came to draw a distinction between what he referred to as science and pseudoscience, which might best be summarized as science disconfirms, while pseudoscience confirms. While the way we describe these disciplines has changed in the intervening years, Popper’s ideas speak to the heart of how we arrive at knowledge.
